Travel to the UK made easier from UAE with no quarantine

UK border authorities and the Department of Travel announced on Thursday the 12th of Nov 2020 that UAE residents who enter the UK after the 14th of Nov 2020 will no longer be required to self-isolate themselves for 14-days. The move has led to a surge in flight bookings to the UK.

The Department of Travel did mention that travellers will have to stay in the UK for at least 2 weeks to qualify for the mandatory quarantine exemption. The travel exemption is not just limited to residents of UAE, travellers from Bahrain, Chile, Cambodia, Laos, Qatar, and Turks & Caicos Islands have been added to the list of exempted countries.

The move further strengthens the travel ties between the UAE and the UK. The decision comes at the time when travel from UAE to the UK has its highest demand. Residents from UAE typically rush to the UK, more so during the latter half of the year to enjoy the winter chills, celebrate Christmas, New Year and enjoy the year-end shopping sales that the UK has to offer.

However, as the UK is under a lockdown till 2 December 2020, anyone arriving in the country has to follow the national restrictions, which include staying at home and not meeting people you do not live with.

The decision comes at the perfect time for ex-pats who wish to apply for a UK visa from UAE. Under standard process, the embassy will take 15 days, which means you will have your visa just in time to travel once the lockdown in UK is lifted, which is due for the 2nd of December 2020.
