Dubai residents need Government approval before travelling in summer of 2020

In order to control the spread of COVID-19 in the UAE and to make residents' lives easier and healthier, the Government of Dubai is regularly issuing new regulations. The latest in the series is to make your trips abroad more streamlined and safe for you and the community. The Dubai government wants its residents who wish to travel abroad this summer to apply for permission from the government before booking a flight.

Dubai Residents looking to travel must submit an online form to Dubai immigration services, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA)

While those residents who hold visas from other emirates need to use a separate federal ICA/Tawajudi site.

If your application is approved, the system will give you a reference number which will be required to book a flight online or with the airline staff.

Emirates airlines have confirmed the update. The airline also informed that they cannot apply for a clearance for the passenger, all Dubai residents must do this application themselves.

The process includes:

1. Visiting the website.

2. Filling up the required details, including file number of resident visa and country of destination.

3. Submit the application.

4. Approval – GDRFA will issue you a reference number. In case of application not getting processed you can try again.

5. Provide the airline with the approved reference number or use it to book yourself.

As per the rules set out by the Government on return to Dubai, each passenger has to undergo a mandatory COVID19 test at the airport and they must isolate themselves until the results of the test aren’t ready. Or passengers can get a COVID-Free certificate from 17 countries that have been identified by the Government. The test centers are in 109 cities in these 17 countries.

Passengers are also instructed to download the govt app that allows them to be monitored while in isolation.

Currently, Fly Dubai, Emirates and Etihad are operating flights from their hubs in UAE. Inbound tourists can start traveling to Dubai from 7 July 2020.
